Yeah, I'm coo-coo
In my listening habits. In the morning I listen to NPR, then I'll switch over to listen to Glenn Beck. In the afternoons I listen to Air America and in the evenings if I'm working late I'll listen to Sean Hannity (get HANNITIZED!). And I'm a left leaning registered Libertarian that believes in limited government programs that would benefit society (but if I were running things I would shut down departments like the Department of Agriculture). No wonder why my wife pulls her hair out sometimes. Poor lass. Not trying to start a flame war. I was just contemplating myself out loud. I miss Toi Thai and Club Violaine. Not at the point of missing Bar Sinister yet. *giggle* Current Mood: contemplative |

Goth in Richmond?
Give it up. For those who really know me I never claimed to be goth. I like the music, clothes, people, etc... But here I am in Richmond, VA wanting to go out (wife's in LA) and there are only two clubs here. One on Mondays and one on Wednesdays. Is that it? Don't want to drive the two hours to DC where there are TONS of goth clubs. Don't want to go to Hampton (where I was born) for a "supposed" club (that is an hour drive). Right now I can hear Shok's voice telling me about a lot of clubs that he knows in PA. Problem is they are 3 hours away. Yeah, it's amazing how close you are to things on the East Coast. Oh well, gonna pour some tequila, play some Cruxshadow and maybe fall asleep. If you have any ideas, let me know... |

Attention 401(k) people
I get asked for advice from time to time, so I just though I would open up our retirement account and let you know what I'm doing/thinking. Enjoy. Current positionsStock Name: Ultrashort Dow 30 Stock Symbol: DXD Stock Description: Trades inverse of the market, so if the market goes down this stock goes up Percentage of portfolio: 2% Stock Name: Goldman Sachs Stock Symbol: GS Stock Description: One of the biggest investment firms in the WORLD! Percentage of portfolio: 65% Stock Name: Vice Fund Stock Symbol: VICEX Stock Description: Mutual fund that only invests in porn, booze, guns and gambling Percentage of portfolio: 33% Comments: Yeah, I'm waaaaay overweight in Goldman but that was a fucking no brainer. It was fucking trading at $72.09, are you kidding me?!? I'll probably trim some profit off once it hits pre market crash levels ($154). And yes, as you can see I am still negative about the market in general, but just a little bit (2%). If we get another moderate downturn I might just take early profit on Goldman and swap it for the Dow Ultrashorts. I still think we have yet to see the worse in this economy, but I'm not one of those stubborn economists (*cough* *KUDLOW* *cough*). The stock market is a leading indicator so if it starts to go up a lot then obviously things are looking up. Have a great weekend, everybody. |

Vegas...
So I actually went out Saturday with my man Shok! I saw, Coleman and Karen, Jenz, Xian, Serina.... Even had dinner at Toi Thai at an ungodly 3 am. I was talking about how happy I was about going to Vegas this weekend (3 more days). Some people were like "It seems like you don't want any company when you talked about it on LiveJournal." Not true at all. If anyone wants to come along, feel free to e-mail me! It's gonna be crazy though. I'm going to do the Sterling Brunch at Bally's (lobster, caviar, etc.) It's like $85 a person but all you can eat. I'm gonna gamble a LOT because of my free paycheck. Basically anything goes. But if anyone want so come along, let me know! Three more days. |

Watchmen: Aftermath
I love the Arclight. Got there around 10 pm, had dinner and drinks. Made my way to the dome theater. You know, the website said that the two seats next to me were taken but no one showed up. That was a waste of $14 per seat. Anyways, the movie was all I was hoping it would be. It is in my top 10 best movies ever. The ending was silly, but that didn't take too much away from a solid piece of filmmaking. I really hope it wins some type of Oscar. |

One of us will be tired tonight
So yeah, I want to see Watchmen. Arclight Sunset is the perfect venue (booze and good food). I want to go Friday night. Went online and check the times. I was actually surprised that the 8:30 pm and 10 pm shows were sold out. So I pick the 7 pm showing. Whoops, no money on my credit card. So I go to pay it. Come back to the office, hop online and now the 7 pm showing is sold out. Only 11:55 pm is left. Ouch, I never EVER stay up past 11:55 if I can help it. This theater is gonna be empty, I mean who on earth would go see a movie that late?! Go to pick my seat and there were only 15 SEATS LEFT! And they put a timer on me like "you better hurry up and pick something, Negro..." Thank goodness the seats that I like were open (I hate sitting in the middle, I like isle seats). So there I will be 11:55 pm slightly buzzed and full watching the Watchmen. Probably should get there at like 10 pm or something. |

OJ Simpson is a big dummy
You knew the White folks would be gunning for you after that not guilty verdict awhile back. But yet you couldn't keep a low profile, could you? Now look at you. You deserve it. Should have been like Michael Jackson. After those not guilty verdicts, that motherfucker left the damn country! |

Update
I should do these more. They're good to let peeps know what's happening with you. So, I'm pretty sure everyone knows I write a college basketball blog. Well starting this week I'm also writing once a day for Sports Illustrated doing their Reporters' Notebook talking about the same subject. Link here (depending on when you click, mine is the 2nd, 3rd or 4th down under Gabby). Gigs. Gotta love them. Even though 95% of my friends list are not into sports. Anyone watching the UNC/Michigan State basketball game tonight? Anyone? Bueller? |

"Concept Album"
So, here is the deal. I wanted to do a compilation CD. And I got in my head about doing one based on influential songs. The end result was this - Criteria1 - Album had to be on three different Most Influential Albums Ever lists (Rolling Stone, Time and NME). 2 - Song had to be a song that I've heard before. 3 - Song had to be a song that I liked personally. Without further adieu: 1) Soon From the album Loveless by My Bloody Valentine 2) Just From the album The Bends by Radiohead 3) God Only Knows From the album Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys 4) Off The Wall From the album Off The Wall by Michael Jackson 5) Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos From the album It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back by Public Enemy 6) Tomorrow Never Knows From the album Revolver by The Beatles 7) One Nation Under a Groove From the album One Nation Under a Groove by Parliament-Funkadelic 8) Ziggy Stardust From the album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars by David Bowie 9) Until the End of the World From the album Achtung Baby by U2 10) Venus in Furs From the album The Velvet Underground and Nico by The Velvet Underground 11) On a Plain From the album Nevermind by Nirvana 12) Are You Experienced? From the album Are You Experienced by The Jimi Hendrix Experience 13) Straight Outta Compton From the album Straight Outta Compton by NWA 14) Heaven or Las Vegas From the album Heaven or Las Vegas by The Cocteau Twins Note: This was the only pick that violated the rule of three different most influential record lists (it was only on two). But you already know how I feel about this band. 15) Play in the Sunshine From the album Sign o' the Times by Prince 16) The Becoming From the album The Downward Spiral by NIN 17) Monkey Gone to Heaven From the album Doolitte by the Pixies I would be interested in what The Angelus has to say because I know he is a music freak. |

Dear Lord... My alma mater is involved in the drug wars now?!WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Authorities have arrested nearly 100 people and seized guns and drugs in a sting operation at San Diego State University in California, the Drug Enforcement Administration said Tuesday.
Among those arrested were 75 students, some of them working toward criminal justice or homeland security degrees. One criminal justice major was charged with possession of guns and cocaine, authorities said.
One student sent a mass text message offering a "sale" on cocaine, the DEA said in a news release.
Campus police and the DEA began their undercover operation after the death of a student from an overdose in May 2007, the news release said. A second overdose death occurred as recently as February at a fraternity house.O-M-F-G... When I went there the only thing making the rounds was cheap pot and Natural Light. 15 year olds from the LBC don't like Cocteau Twins
So I was hanging out with my mentee last weekend and without even thinking put CT Live in Detroit in my CD player. After five minutes my mentee looks at me and says "What is she saying?!?!"I apologized and said it was an acquired taste. Then I flip the station to K-Day. |

Precious
When I was 18 gas was $0.97 a gallon. When I was 33 gas was $2.00 a gallon (an increase of 5% per year). Today I paid $3.25 a gallon for gas (an increase of 17% per year). Not really complaining. I guess it is good that I can afford it. But the percentage increase is breathtaking and remember I am an econ geek. |
